Quinton Hazell (QH) has announced it will be sponsoring this year’s Ginetta Junior Championship scholar, Stuart Middleton, in his breakthrough sports-car season.

The 15-year-old was awarded the scholarship after impressing Ginetta’s judges back in October. He will be driving a QH-liveried Ginetta G40 as part of the Douglas Racing team in the Carlube-supported KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship.

Until now, Middleton has raced karts – something he started shortly before his 7th birthday. ‘I didn’t expect to win the scholarship at all,’ says Middleton, speaking at the Ginetta launch event at Silverstone. ‘It’s very exciting to have my own car. We’ve all had a few test sessions already, and now I just want to race. I learned my racecraft with karting, so for me it’s been about adapting to the car.’

Middleton, who says his driving style is quite relaxed, says he’s aiming to finish the season in the top 10. ‘That’s my aim,’ he says. ‘But I hope to get onto the podium. I’m looking forward to the more technical circuits.’

Peter Schofield, Chairman of Tetrosyl, which acquired the QH brand in 2013, says: ‘Quinton Hazell is synonymous with the car parts aftermarket and, with the red dragon logo, the brand is recognised by motor mechanics across the world. Today, QH is part of Tetrosyl, and we are pleased to be involved with the Carlube-supported Ginetta Junior Championship. The QH car is very distinctive, and I am sure Stuart will push the car to the limits in his pursuit to be a champion. We all wish him great success for the season.’

Meanwhile, Lawrence Tomlinson, Chairman of Ginetta Cars and a racing driver himself, says: ‘Both companies believe passionately in supporting the UK manufacturing industry and about constantly evolving our products. The Ginetta Junior Scholarship is just one of the ways in which we support driver progression and we are sure Stuart and Quinton Hazell will have a successful season together.’

The KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship begins on 4 April at Brands Hatch, and will be televised on ITV4 as part of the British Touring Car Championship coverage.
